Slaughterhouse 2.0 + Chris Brown BET Cyphers

BET Hip Hop Awards '11

Last night, the BET Hip Hop Awards aired. As expected, most of the big names (Jay Z, Kanye, Wayne, Drake) are absent, but there were several memorable performances, including the returns of TI, DMX and Heavy D. But the highlight of the night had to be the Slaughterhouse cypher. The cypher featured Yelawolf, Joe Budden, Crooked I, Joell Ortiz, Royce Da 5’9 (who had several humorous Rihanna mentions) and Eminem, who summoned Slim Shady/B. Rabbit and maybe spit one of the sickest rhymes of the year. Check out the cypher below.

And here is the cypher by Chris Brown and Friends…

Last night in LA, BET hosted its annual BET Awards Show. There were the good- The Kevin Hart “Real Husbands of LA” skits, Kelly Rowland‘s live performance of “Motivation”, Beyonce‘s set from across the pond; the bad-Rosci’s dress at the pre-show; and the WTF-the mishandling of the Viewers’ Choice Award. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like this at an awards show before. Let’s hope they can get it together next year. Click the comic to enlarge.

A Comic Strip is Born

Way back in June of 2010, I came up with the idea to create an all new comic strip that would deal with social issues from a minority/hip hop POV. And from that came the Keep the Change comic strip. And on June 14, 2010, the first comic debuted on Since then, the comic has evolved and the style has changed a little. Click the comic to enlarge.

The Game gets Renewed

BET is playing The Game for at least another year, extending the dramedy for a new season in 2012. The show, which revolved around the lives of football players and the women in the lives, had cable’s biggest comedy opener ever with 7.7 million people viewing in and averaged 5.3 million viewers for the season. In addition to renewing The Game, BET also is bringing back Let’s Stay Together and is adding three new scripted comedies to its prime-time programming; the first of which will be Reed Between the Lines, starring Malcolm Jamal-Warner (The Cosby Show) and Tracee Ellis Ross (Girlfriends). They will play professional parents (he’s an English professor, she’s a psychologist) who have three kids and it debuts in October. Click the image to enlarge.
